How this wallpaper roll calculator works
Count complete wallpaper drops for each wall before counting rolls. Roll area alone can underestimate the material lost to full-height cuts, corner rounding and matching a pattern.
Use your room and product measurements
- Assign Wallpaper to the walls you want to cover.
- Enter the physical roll width and length, total trim per drop and any straight-match vertical repeat.
- Review drops, complete drops per roll and whole rolls before entering a price.
The calculation
Cut length = wall covering height + trim, rounded up to a whole repeat when required
An 8 ft wall with 4 in of total trim requires an 8.333 ft free-match drop. A 33 ft roll gives 3 complete drops. For a 16 × 12 ft room and 20.5 in roll width, 10% spare drops rounded separately on each wall produce 40 drops, or 14 rolls.
What to check before buying
Openings are not deducted from full drops. Half-drop patterns, murals and reuse of offcuts between different cut lengths are outside this model. Confirm whether the retailer’s price is for a single or double roll.

A window does not necessarily save a complete full-height drop. The calculator avoids promising that every offcut can be reused.
Does it handle a half-drop pattern?
No. It supports free-match and straight-match vertical repeats. Ask the wallpaper supplier to calculate half-drop, offset-match and mural orders.
